Functional Blood Work
Your results said normal.
But you don’t feel normal.
Here’s why.
This is one of the most common reasons people turn to functional health practitioners.
Conventional blood ranges were not built to tell you whether you are thriving.
They were built to tell you whether you have a diagnosable disease.
Those are not the same thing.
The difference between conventional and functional ranges
Conventional blood ranges are calculated from large population averages. In most countries, the majority of adults live with at least one chronic condition, so a result that falls within the "normal" range may simply mean it fits within the average of a population that isn't especially well.
Functional ranges work differently. They're narrowed and adjusted for age, sex, and where relevant, ethnicity, and based on research linking specific ranges to the lowest disease risk and the best long-term outcomes. This allows for earlier pattern recognition: spotting where the body is beginning to drift from optimal, long before conventional medicine would intervene.
This kind of work typically involves:
A full written interpretation of the blood panel using functional ranges
Pattern recognition across multiple markers, not single-marker assessment
A personalised health report, with findings explained in accessible language
Prioritised recommendations across nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle
A GP or specialist referral letter where red flags or out-of-scope findings are identified
Do you need a doctor to request blood work?
In most countries, no GP referral is needed for a private wellness blood panel. Through professional laboratory partnerships, comprehensive panels can be arranged directly, without important markers being excluded. Existing blood results from a GP can also be brought in for interpretation.
Scope & professional framework
This work sits within the scope of integrative nutritional therapy and functional wellness. It is not a diagnostic service and not a substitute for medical care.
I'm recognised and insured as an Integrative Nutritional Therapist for both Nutritional Therapy and Functional Blood Work through the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT). IICT insurance covers online and in-person practice across more than 35 countries, including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and most of Europe. Full country coverage is available on request.
Where blood work reveals red flags, pathology, or anything requiring medical attention, a referral letter to a GP or appropriate specialist is always included.

I'm not currently taking new one-to-one clients for functional blood work interpretation. If you have questions, want to explore a collaboration, or you're a fellow practitioner curious about this approach, I'd love to hear from you.
